St. Clair Shores is a suburban city bordering Lake St. Clair in Macomb County in Michigan. It forms a part of the Metro Detroit area and is the northeastern part of downtown Detroit.
It was first inhabited by French settlers in the early 1700s, and the area was referred to as L'anse Creuse, the future St. Clair Shores, Michigan. It is a largely rural farming area majority populated by French and German immigrants. Traces can still be found in the surnames of the current day residents and residential street names.
St. Clair Shores boasts several tourist attractions. The Nautical Mile features nautical themed streetscape, retail establishments, restaurants, etc. St. Clair Shores host one of the largest and most attended Memorial Day parades in the Midwestern United States. St. Clair Shores also is home to the longest, consecutively running preliminary program pageant of the Miss America Organization in Michigan.
