South Lyon is a city in Oakland County in Michigan. A Western suburb of Metro Detroit, it is located in the northwestern part of Detroit and has the same distance northeast of the city of Ann Arbor.
Founded in 1832 and its original name was Thompson's Corners, South Lyon was incorporated as a village in 1873 and as a city in 1930.
South Lyon's largest annual festival, Pumpkinfest, is being held in the last week of September. In 2010, it was moved and is now being celebrated on the main street, at the center being a large pyramid of hay bales and pumpkins. Activities in the festival include children's outdoor activities, 5k run around the town, carnival food, art contests, and exhibits. There are also live entertainments and a dog show.
