Rochester is a city in Oakland County of Michigan. A northern suburb of Metro Detroit located about 16 miles north of the city.
Founded in 1818, Rochester was the first settlement in Oakland County. In 1835, it became part of the Avon Township and became an autonomous city in 1967. Rochester Hills surrounds most of the city and to the east is Shelby Township.
The annual Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade is being held since 1951. It's being held on the first Sunday in December, it claims to be Michigan's largest Christmas parade. The city's first "Big Bright Light Show" for the Christmas season started in 2006.
Rochester has a rich history. There are twenty-two buildings on Main Street are more than 50 years old, and several are on the State Register of Historic Places.
