Northfield Township is a civil township of Washtenaw County, located halfway between Ann Arbor and Brighton in Michigan. It was established in 1832 when the Territorial Legislature held a meeting in Detroit and passed the resolution which brought it into existence. It could quite possibly be named after the New England site-Northfield, Massachusetts. Emery was formed in 1831 and was an unincorporated community in the township.
One of the main attractions is the close vicinity of the rolling countryside and centennial farms which gives a rural character feeling if someone wants to get away from the busy city life. One of the premier lakes in Southeast Michigan, Whitmore Lake, is a water sporting venue that includes fishing, boating, water skiing, etc. Northfield combines both modern-day livings with a touch of nature and history.
