Milford is a village in Oakland County in Michigan. The village is located within Milford Township and is known for being the home of the Milford General Motors Proving Ground.
The building of a sawmill gave birth to the village of Milford in 1832. The first gristmill was built and erected in 1834. in the following year, 1835, the first post office was established.
In 1836, the Lower Mill Pond was created to give support to various mills and factories by providing waterpower. The Upper Mill Pond was built in 1845.
Hydropower was born when the Hubble Pond was created by a dam built on the Huron River. Because of this, Milford became one of the first communities to have electricity in 1892. Telephone services followed a year after.
Henry Ford built a carburetor plant and two hydroelectric stations in 1939.
